Did You Know? Perfume Tips and Tricks

PERFUMES
  1. Bathrooms are one of the worst places to store perfumes.  The fridge is the best!
  2. The oil in your skin is what causes perfume to smell different on everyone.
  3. Cold weather tends to weaken your perfume scent.
  4. The best places to put perfume are: The inside of your elbow, the wrist, neck, stomach, cleavage and the back of your knees
  5. Don't spray perfume behind your ears.  It can blend with skin secretions and create a horrible smell.
  6. Don't wear the same scent all year round.  Change it up for the season.  Some scents smell better in the summer, winter, spring and fall!
  7. Apply perfume at least 15 minutes before you go out.  It takes about that amount of time for the scent to develop ; remember that when buying a perfume also.
  8. Moisturized skin holds onto a scent better than dry skin.  Put on an unscented lotion before applying perfume.
  9. Its best to try a perfume at least 3 times before you buy, to make sure that you really love it!
  10. If you apply too much perfume, swab the area with rubbing alcohol.

What Perfume tips do you have?

    1. I bet if I told someone on the street that its better to put your perfume in the fridge, they would think I was a crazy person! But your right, it does sound like something my grandmother would say too!!

I have tried out a ton of perfumes but I always seem to wear a different one, I haven't found *one* that I am in love with.

  8. My favourite perfume tip for relaxation is to wear one perfume during the day and a different one in the evenings when you want to relax. If when you first get your evening perfume for the first two weeks you only put it on just before you go to sleep your brain will associate it with feeling relaxed. Then after that, whenever you spray it on = instant relaxation!

    1. What kind of fragrances do you usually like? Are you into the fruity scents, vanilla scents, musky scents? My husbands favorite scent on my is Elizabeth Arden's Red Door. Its not one that I would pick for me, but he loves it. I really like Ralph Lauren Blue.
I have found that if you email perfume companies and request samples, 9 times out of 10 they will send them to you.

  14. Tip: There are different 'classes' of perfume - Designer & Niche. The fragrances most people think as the luxurious ones are designer fragrances (made as an extension of fashion designers where fragrance is not their niche focus) e.g. Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Tom Ford (signature), Ralph Lauren, Juicy Couture, etc. They are actually at the lower end of the spectrum in terms of quality and prestige. For fragrances sourced from rare and high quality ingredients, made with high artistic value and by master perfumiers look to Niche brands like CREED, Xerjoff, Amouage, Serge Lutens, Byredo, Tom Ford Private Blends, Dior Private Collection, Chanel Exclusifs, byKilian, The Hermessence Collection by Hermes. These fragrances tend to smell very luxurious, unusual and daring, only serious perfumistas/perfumistos need apply!

  15. Tip: To make your fragrance last longer spray your scarf, your clothes or your hair!

  16. Tip: Did you know that if you used 4 sprays from the average fragrance atomizer everyday, a 100ml perfume will last you a little over 1 yr?!

  17. Tip: Fragrances have an average shelf life of about 3 yrs. So if you have more fragrance than you can use up in 3yrs, definitely store your fragrance in a cooler!
