Breesus

So, we got a dog.

When I first met my husband he had 3 dogs, yes 3!  He had 2 cocker spaniels and a shitzu.   The cocker spaniels shed everywhere, lint rollers were a must in our house.  The shitzu was never house trained and when we moved we couldn't have pets so we sold them all, well not sold, we found them all amazing families and gave them to them.

We now have 4 kids and Im always so jealous when I see my friends posting pictures of their kids with their dogs.  We went to see my little brother play football on Saturday, 2 hours away from our home.  I saw these dogs for sale on the side of the road and I had to get a closer look!

OH MY GOSH!  I could not leave this little guy he had the cutest little face that I have ever seen, I couldn't leave him!!  We had always talked about getting a small dog but we ended up with the complete opposite.  We got a Boxer/Rottweiler mix.

Look at this face!

He has been such a good little (BIG) dog.  He is 8 weeks old and we named him Breesus after Drew Brees from the NOLA Saints of course!!

Well, this is the first big dog that we have ever had.  Does anyone have any advice for us???

  1. We have 3 dogs, two little and one big. Crate train him from the start. Boxers are super high energy and can be really destructive. They hate the crate at first but then begin to love it later because it's their home. Alos, buy lots of Kong brand chew toys. Much harder to destroy!

    1. I am so confused on this whole crate training thing, I really don't know how to do it and it breaks my heart to hear him whine. Everyone said to buy a small crate while he is small and then later on get a bigger one, is that right?

      Thanks for your comments.

  2. We have a lab/american bull dog mix. Huge dog now. Teach him from the start not to jump on the kids. Teach your kids not to allow it. It can be a huge issue later on when your little guy is BIG. Nikki also gave great advice.

    1. Wow, I bet your dog is so pretty! My kids are scared to death of him now, I can't even imagine how they will be when he is double their size!!! Im trying to teach him not to jump or bite but he's not the best listener, he's definitely teaching me patience though!!!

    1. Wow, 100 pounds?!?! I can't even imagine him getting that big!! I know he's going to be huge though, his paws are huge already. My BIL had a boxer and I loved him, I think he was 95 lbs at the most, but they are so solid!!!

  7. He is so cute!! I have 4 boxers..I know I'm crazy! But they are the best dogs I have ever had!! And Nikki gave great advice...crate train them! It is very hard to listen to them whine...but it will be worth it! My dogs stay in their crates during the day...my house would be destroyed otherwise! And yes, start with a small crate and upgrade as needed. When they are smaller, it's best that they don't have too much extra room to wander around and potty. And the Kong toys Nikki mentioned are all my dogs get! They destroy anything else they are given! Good luck! Stopping by from the Friday Chaos hop...would love you to check out my blog!

  12. You have the cutest puppy! Sweet face. We have a Goldendoodle(Golden retriever and standard poodle mix). Fairly big, maybe 80 pounds. We crated him when we first got him. Now, he just uses his crate to eat dinner and store his toys :) Guess with your small kids, you have to train your puppy young not to jump on kids as he can get pretty heavy.

Found your blog through blog hop and I'm your newest follower. Hope you will check out my blog some time too.

  13. Such a cute boy!! I have a boxer and a pitbull now myself but I used to have a little min pin and a poodle (strange combination I know lol). I've found that big dogs are for sure more fun overall just because of their size. I would suggest doing some basic obedience classes they will work wonders when he gets bigger. A lot of local Petsmart's and Petco's offer the classes. Boxers are very high energy so just make sure your kids are wearing him out everyday ;)
